What’s the role?

We're a 3-person engineering team looking to add mid- and senior-level engineers, preferably with 5+ years of experience in early-stage or high-ownership environments where you've worked without rails.
You'll own problems end-to-end with no PM layer or detailed specs. Just you working directly on everything from customer complaints to shipped solutions. One day you're fixing timeout issues with 50,000-user imports, the next you're addressing SOC2 findings or figuring out how to make browser extensions faster without killing performance.
Your job is to turn vague problems into concrete plans, make the right tradeoffs, and ship something that works.

We're looking for someone who can take ambiguous problems and make them concrete:

  • You ask the right questions before you start coding. When someone says "we need to improve performance," you figure out what's actually slow, for whom, and whether it matters—before you start optimizing.
  • You ship. Real ships—in production, monitored, documented enough that someone else can debug it at 2am. Everything you deploy is actually done.
  • You make decisions and own them. Design-by-committee kills momentum, so you'll make architecture calls with real tradeoffs, and you'll be the one maintaining that code.
  • You work independently. We collaborate constantly, but nobody is going to hand you a spec and check on your progress daily. You need to be the person driving your own work forward.
  • You're pragmatic about tech choices. Our stack is Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL/Prisma, and AWS via SST. We care more about solving problems than about using the "right" tools. Sometimes the right answer is boring.
  • You make others better. On a 3-person team, there's no formal mentorship program. But you share context, explain your decisions, and help teammates grow, because that's just how you work.

People thrive in different environments. You'll probably be happier elsewhere if you prefer:

  • Perfect code over shipped code. We value clean code, but shipping wins.
  • A clear career ladder and defined growth path. We're too small for that right now.
  • Detailed specs to start working. Most projects begin with a need or complaint, not a spec.
  • Greenfield work. We have early-stage projects with lots of room to shape them, but you'll also spend plenty of time improving existing systems.

Application & Interview

One human (not an ATS) reads every application, so we ask these two questions in the initial application to see who’s read what we're looking for and can share relevant examples:
- A time you inherited something vague or broken and turned it into something that worked
- A technical decision you made that you later regretted, and what you learned
We keep interviews practical and relevant to the actual job. You'll walk through how you'd scope a real ambiguous problem we've faced, review actual code from our codebase and discuss the tradeoffs, and meet the team to see if we'd enjoy working together.
