Job Summary

We are seeking a Temporary Technical Writer to support our organization for a period of 3 to 6 months, maybe longer, depending on operational need. This position is responsible for developing clear, accurate, and well-structured written materials that capture technical, operational, and programmatic information for internal and external use, including government-related communications.

The ideal candidate has experience interviewing technical, operational, and program personnel to gather information and translate that information into professional written products. This individual should also have experience supporting government proposal efforts, including drafting proposal content and preparing and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs). The successful candidate will be able to quickly understand complex work, organize content effectively, and produce high-quality documentation under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interview program staff, subject matter experts, and other personnel to gather information on current work, processes, deliverables, and technical capabilities.
  • Translate interviews, notes, and source materials into clear, concise, and accurate written narratives.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure content is accurate, compliant, and aligned with customer requirements.
  • Organize and synthesize information from multiple contributors into a consistent voice and format.
  • Review and revise documents for clarity, grammar, completeness, responsiveness, and professionalism.
  • Manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive business and customer information.

Requirements

Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, Business, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience

Required Years of Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing, proposal writing, business writing, or a related role

Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, Certifications, etc.:

  • Demonstrated experience interviewing personnel and converting technical discussions into polished written content
  • Experience preparing and/or responding to RFIs for government customers
  • Strong ability to understand and communicate technical or operational work in a clear and professional manner.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and editing skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to meet background investigation requirements relevant to the position, consistent with applicable laws
  • Must be willing to comply with pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with company policy

Preferred Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, Certifications, etc.:

  • Experience writing for technical, engineering, IT, logistics, or program management-focused organizations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with program managers, technical leads, and business development personnel
  • Experience working in an environment with multiple reviewers and contributors
  • Strong interviewing and information-gathering skills
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar subject matter
  • Excellent editing and document organization skills
  • Strong responsiveness and follow-through
  • Ability to produce concise, accurate, and persuasive written content
  • Professional judgment in handling sensitive or incomplete information
