Action for Children is a prominent UK-based charity dedicated to protecting and supporting children and young people by providing practical and emotional care and support. Established in 1869 by Methodist minister Thomas Bowman Stephenson as the National Children's Home, the organization has a long and rich history of adapting to the evolving needs of vulnerable children and their families. Originally founded to provide a home for children living on the streets of London, it has since transitioned from primarily offering residential care to delivering a wide spectrum of community-based services. The charity's core mission is to ensure that every child has a safe and happy childhood and the foundations they need to thrive. It operates hundreds of services across the UK, working in partnership with local authorities and other organizations to deliver support where it is most needed.

The work of Action for Children is multifaceted, addressing a range of issues that affect children and young people. This includes early intervention to prevent neglect and abuse, support for disabled children, fostering and adoption services, and programs for young people facing challenges such as homelessness, substance misuse, and mental health issues. The charity is also a vocal advocate for children's rights, campaigning at a national level to influence policy and bring about lasting improvements to their lives. By combining direct, on-the-ground support with strategic campaigning and research, Action for Children strives to create a society where all children are valued and have the opportunity to reach their full potential. In the 2023/24 period, the organization helped 687,755 children, young people, and their families through its extensive network of services and dedicated staff and volunteers.
