Hey everyone,
We receive a lot of questions at Himalayas asking how to use our platform effectively to find a remote job. Here's a few tips:
Complete your profile: Our matches are highly targeted to your profile. The more relevant information you add to the profile, the better we can target matches to you.
Filter by location: If you are searching for a specific skill or category, ensure you also filter by location. With our location filtering, we include all jobs that are possible at that location, including 100% worldwide jobs.
Apply to jobs every day: The job search often requires consistent effort. We've added streaks to help encourage users to look at at least one job a day during an active job search. While this is not for everyone, we find it can help motivate users to keep momentum.
Use projects as proof: If you lack formal experience, replace it with 1–2 small, self-initiated projects directly related to the role and company. For example, a marketing hopeful might draft a short campaign plan for the company's product. Provide a link to it in your application and on your Himalayas' profile.
Find the quiet listings: Ultra-popular companies get hundreds of applicants in hours. Instead, hunt in the "quiet corners" — lesser-known companies, niche industries, and jobs posted more than a week ago. There's often far less competition, and your odds go up massively.
These are just a few tips and tricks. What are some other strategies that have worked for you to find a remote job?
While common advice, tailoring the application from the job listing and the company's profile has helped me get to the interview stage, especially for roles at smaller companies. I've also had some success by following up a week after applying.
