Namhla Mvinjelwa
@namhlamvinjelwa
Social worker dedicated to student and community wellness through counselling, advocacy, and programs.
What I'm looking for
I’m a dedicated and experienced Social Worker, currently registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP). I bring a strong focus on emotional support, counselling services, and advocacy for individuals, groups, and communities, with a clear commitment to psychosocial well-being.
In my recent role as a Student Wellness Advisor, I provide counselling and support services to students by addressing mental health and wellness needs. I develop campus-wide campaigns and wellness programs, conduct risk assessments and intervention planning, and maintain accurate records through case notes and programme evaluations while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders for referrals and resources.
Previously, I supported people with disabilities through assessments, Individual Development Plans (IDPs), facilitated group work, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure optimal wellbeing. I also delivered training and awareness programs on behavioural change, mental wellness, stress management, trauma support, and substance abuse prevention, while providing support to staff including supervision, stress management, and financial wellness.
My broader experience includes disability support and accessibility coordination, grant administration functions (screening applicants, data capturing, statistics, customer care, and home visits), and community-based behavioural change work such as implementing harm reduction programs. I’ve also completed an internship providing statutory social work for vulnerable children, including screening, needs-based care, family mediation, home visits, and monitoring and evaluation—always grounded in the best interests of the child.
