Mariel Montoya
@marielmontoya
Senior manufacturing engineer improving electronics processes and quality through continuous improvement.
What I'm looking for
I’m an engineering professional with 7+ years of experience in electronic manufacturing, specializing in printed circuit board assembly (SMT and Through-Hole) for automotive lighting and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) devices. I combine process engineering, quality control, and continuous improvement to drive measurable performance gains on the production floor.
In my roles as a Quality and Process Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer, I optimized SMT equipment and downstream inspection and testing, including SPI, AOI, solder paste printers, reflow ovens, wave soldering ovens, and ICT. I defined and validated thermal profiles, provided real-time technical support to resolve process issues, and improved key KPIs such as FPY and OEE.
I also lead structured improvement work using Lean Manufacturing, engineering change management, and CAPEX analysis. I’ve supported end-to-end process development from PCB to finished product and prepared specification sheets, work instructions, process parameters, and flow diagrams to standardize and stabilize production.
Beyond electronics, I delivered operational monitoring as an Analyst II for refrigerated containers (reefers), supervising the cold chain with real-time monitoring systems and coordinating responses to alarms and equipment failures. Across both environments, I’ve worked closely with multidisciplinary teams in Honduras and the United States to implement changes and sustain manufacturing efficiency.

Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Manufacturing Engineer
TRC Southwire
Jan 2024 - Present (2 years 4 months)
Implemented Lean and continuous improvement initiatives to increase production efficiency for GFCI devices, using OEE and productivity metrics to monitor performance. Led NPI from PCB to finished product, defined equipment acquisition needs via CAPEX analysis, supported production line installation, and created specification sheets and standardized work instructions for power distribution and cabl
Analyst II - Logistics
Crowley Logistics
Jan 2023 - Jan 2024 (1 year)
Monitored refrigerated container (reefer) operations across multi-country routes by supervising cold-chain performance with real-time monitoring systems. Detected and escalated alarms and anomalies, coordinated maintenance inspections, and tracked incident resolution to reduce risk and logistics losses.
Manufacturing Engineer
TRC Southwire
Jan 2019 - Jan 2023 (4 years)
Led manufacturing process optimization for GFCI electronic protection devices by developing machine programs for pick-and-place and reflow, improving cycle times, and standardizing work instructions. Managed engineering changes with traceability, supported new model starts, coordinated with US engineering on design adaptations, and maintained technical documentation for production and quality team
Quality & Process Engineer
Empire Electronics
Jan 2011 - Jan 2017 (6 years)
Optimized PCB assembly processes for automotive lighting by monitoring and tuning SMT/THT equipment (SPI, AOI, solder paste printers, reflow ovens, wave soldering, and ICT). Defined and validated thermal profiles, drove continuous improvement using FPY and yield metrics, and ensured compliance with IPC-A-610 acceptance criteria.
