At Merson Group, I translated client drawings, specifications and design requirements into manufacturable 3D models using SolidWorks. I applied Design for Manufacture principles and produced 2D manufacturing drawings and RADAN CAM files for sheet-metal fabrication.

I also addressed design and manufacturability issues, including bend relief and tolerance adjustments, and developed or assessed trial components to evaluate manufacturing approaches. I worked with engineering and manufacturing colleagues to troubleshoot technical issues and support the DFM workflow.

For my BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering dissertation at University of Strathclyde, I manufactured and tested flax fibre-reinforced PLA composite samples, comparing untreated fibres with polydopamine treated fibres. I analysed mechanical and thermal performance and used electron microscopy to examine microstructure and defects.

I modelled a tensile specimen in ANSYS DesignModeler and carried out finite element analysis in ANSYS Mechanical, comparing simulated behaviour with experimental results. I’m keen to build on my foundation in CAD/CAM, manufacturing or other production-focused design roles.
