Katrina Ruiz

I’m an aspiring secondary science educator currently building my foundation through an Accelerated Teaching Program secondary-science 7-12 while working toward a Bachelor’s in Biology. I’m drawn to hands-on learning—where students can connect concepts to real lab work.

In my Internship with Dr. Sara Black at the University of Texas Rio Grande, I supported instruction and lab activities with minimal supervision from the lead professor. I collaborated weekly with the professor and other students to align schedules and coordinate tasks, ensuring learning ran smoothly.

I also coordinated with four other lab technicians to manage scheduling and ensure efficiency. Beyond day-to-day support, I consulted with faculty and conducted independent research to improve lab techniques, and I tutored other students who were falling behind.

Academically, I’ve earned Deans list Spring 2024 and President’s list Spring 2025, reflecting my commitment to consistency and growth. I bring critical thinking, strong communication, and problem-solving to every learning environment I support.
