Kai Wang

I’m a Senior Software Engineer with more than 10 years of experience building scalable backend systems, distributed applications, and cloud-based platforms. My core expertise is in Java, Spring Boot, AWS, Kafka, SQL, and distributed systems, with a strong focus on high availability, low latency, reliability, and performance.

Most recently, I worked at Capital One, where I helped design and deliver secure, scalable financial technology solutions. I built high-throughput transaction processing services using Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka, developed AWS-based batch and streaming data pipelines with S3, Kinesis, and Lambda, and improved database performance using PostgreSQL and SQL optimization. I also worked extensively with observability and infrastructure technologies including Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.

Before Capital One, I spent several years at Comcast, where I worked on large-scale digital platforms supporting millions of users. My responsibilities included building high-performance backend services, developing real-time data processing pipelines with Kafka, Spark, and Databricks, modernizing legacy systems on AWS, optimizing database performance, and improving application reliability through profiling, load testing, and performance tuning. I also mentored junior engineers and contributed to architectural design and engineering best practices.

Earlier in my career at Extreme Scale Solutions, I focused on high-performance and distributed computing. I developed large-scale data processing applications using Java, Hadoop, and Spark, worked with terabyte-scale datasets, built cloud-based processing solutions on AWS, and optimized algorithms and data structures to improve throughput and computational efficiency.

I’m especially interested in opportunities involving distributed systems, backend architecture, cloud infrastructure, real-time data processing, and performance engineering. I enjoy solving technically challenging problems, taking ownership of systems from design through production, and working with collaborative teams to build reliable software that has meaningful business impact. I’m particularly interested in roles where I can continue contributing at a senior level while deepening my expertise in scalable architecture, cloud technologies, and data-intensive systems.
