Linguistics PhD candidate specializing in syntax and phasehood, advancing theory through research and teaching.
What I'm looking for
I am a Linguistics PhD candidate at the University of California, Los Angeles, working on “Read-Only Phases: Rethinking Phasehood” under the guidance of Stefan Keine, with ongoing mentorship from Anoop Mahajan, Ethan Poole, and Michelle Yuan. My research focuses on the structure of phases and how empirical data in Hindi-Urdu tests our theoretical assumptions.
My work has been published and presented across venues including Glossa, CLS, FASAL, and UCLA seminars, including papers such as “Read-Only: Rethinking phasehood” and “Dependent dative case in Hindi-Urdu.” I enjoy turning careful linguistic evidence into clear theoretical contributions, and I’m especially drawn to the interaction between syntax, case, and phasehood.
Alongside research, I have gained substantial teaching experience as a Teaching Fellow/Instructor and Teaching Assistant/Associate at UCLA, teaching courses including “Syntax I,” “Syntax II,” “Introduction to Linguistics,” and “Applied Phonetics.” I’ve also taught at NYU, including “Sex, Gender, and Language” and “Techniques in Regional Cuisine,” and I bring a student-centered approach to structuring difficult material.
I’ve supported research projects as a Research Assistant, including work on hierarchy effects in Hindi-Urdu and pro-drop in Portuguese, while also leading projects in the UCLA Experience Project context. I’m motivated by rigorous inquiry and strong academic mentorship, and I’m proud to have received recognition such as the Distinguished Teaching Assistant Award, multiple fellowships, and research support.
