Gabriela Torrenegra
@gabrielatorrenegra
Primary bilingual educator advancing English learners through standards-aligned, culturally responsive instruction.
What I'm looking for
I’m a bilingual primary teacher focused on English learner development and early literacy foundations. With my Master of Arts in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and ECE PK-2 license, I build lessons that help students master core academic skills while growing confidence in English.
In my 2nd Grade Self-Contained Teacher role, I lead English lesson planning and curriculum development across the team, delivering specialized bilingual instruction for 21 students. I use Project-Based Learning—like an integrated field expedition to Ciénaga Marroquin—to connect classroom theory to real ecological observations.
Previously, I taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at Universidad del Norte, guiding A2 and B1 students to follow main ideas in short talks, describe events with detail, and communicate through slow, clear interactions. I designed classroom activities around practical daily life situations and targeted oral expression, listening comprehension, and thematic vocabulary.
From 2019 to 2024 with Chicago Public Schools, I collaborated with grade-level teams to create lesson plans, units, and assessments aligned with state standards. I instructed 30 students in phonics, literacy, math, science, and social studies, secured over $3,000 through DonorsChoose, and maintained consistent family communication while developing an action plan to improve student learning.
