Emily Mcneal
@emilymcneal
Biology student and tutor who turns fieldwork data into clear, teachable insights.
What I'm looking for
I’m a biology undergraduate focused on translating research into understanding—whether that means guiding students through intro course content or building datasets from real samples. I aim to create a comfortable, safe learning space where questions and curiosity lead the process.
In my DAAD Rise internship, I independently identified beetle samples using lab resources after resource exclusion experiments, and I organized results by treatment and location. I also constructed spreadsheets to track Coleoptera family counts, then shaped my workflow by directly managing lab tasks and structure so the analysis stayed reliable.
I’ve continued building my research and analysis toolkit through projects like comparing aquatic insect richness and diversity in Ohio ponds, where I used the Shannon-Wiener index in Excel and analyzed results with JMP Pro 17. Alongside research, I’ve served as an Invertebrate Zoology Teacher Assistant—prepping microscopy equipment, maintaining marine invertebrate environments, and supporting lab readiness—while also staying engaged through teaching knitting and contributing prose and poetry as part of my campus literary community.
