I'm looking to work with a team of smart engineers on something that I'm proud of, something that has real value to real people. I want to automate judiciously to improve the lives of people, not replace employees with a blunt instrument that performs worse.

Chris Vandevelde
@chrisvandevelde
I build automation platforms and developer tools that make complex systems faster, more reliable, and easier to use.
What I'm looking for
At Block, I led the design and launch of platform features including the Itemized Subscriptions API, aligning engineering, product, and documentation around a reliable developer experience.
I've driven high-impact work across large-scale polyglot systems using Java, Go, PHP, TypeScript, Rust, Ruby, and SQL. I also mentor engineers through architecture, documentation, and technical knowledge sharing.
At Apple, I built tools end to end—from Python and Java servers to TypeScript, Angular, HTML/CSS interfaces deployed with Docker and Kubernetes. I developed systems supporting Siri lexicon review at the scale of tens of millions of words and a privacy-protecting distributed ML platform used by hundreds of millions of devices.
Earlier, I applied natural-language processing and machine learning to document similarity, sentiment analysis, recommendations, customer analytics, and product insights. I'm motivated by automating what humans don't do well while preserving the work humans do best.
