Ben Glasson
@benglasson
I research how corporate climate communication shapes environmental politics, culture, and public understandings of sustainability.
What I'm looking for
I'm a Visiting Scholar at the American Academy in Rome, researching how contemporary corporate climate rhetoric shapes public cultures of climate change. My project examines sustainability reports, executive communications, social media, advertising, and public relations as ideological interventions.
Previously, as a Landhaus Fellow at the Rachel Carson Centre and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Monash University, I investigated post-greenwashing strategies and Olympic environmental communication. My work has analysed corporate sustainability discourse surrounding the Olympic Games, technology platform companies, climate denial, and ecological modernisation.
I hold a PhD in Environmental Politics from the University of Melbourne and bring methods from rhetorical studies, discourse analysis, psychoanalysis, and green political theory. I've also designed and taught politics, sociology, and media courses, including coordinating large first-year university subjects.
