Alfredo Gallardo
@alfredogallardo
Staff engineer building Rust AI agents and on-chain systems from zero to scale.
What I'm looking for
I’m a Staff Engineer with 14+ years architecting and shipping production systems across crypto, AI, and SaaS. I take products from zero to scale by designing distributed architectures, owning the infrastructure beneath them, and writing the hard core at the center. I care about the craft more than the stack—I’ll learn whatever a problem needs and pick the tool that actually fits.
Recently at dcSpark, I led local-first AI agent and on-chain protocol work. I was the founding engineer on Shinkai, designing and building Shinkai Local AI in Rust—a privacy-preserving, local-first AI agent runtime shipped as a cross-platform desktop app with cloud-optional extensions. I also owned the architecture for the tool/protocol layer and OAuth-based capabilities, shipping an MCP-like design before it became a public standard.
I bootstrapped AgentLayer to certify, integrate, and measure ROI of AI agents across business operations, shaping the foundational architecture from zero-state into early product. I architected and built a Layer-2 network on Midnight with selective privacy and 1K+ TPS, using the Ligero zero-knowledge proof system and the open-source Sovereign SDK. I’ve also built the AI-agent layer for Midnight.city (agentic NPCs reasoning over on-chain state) and shipped tooling like MCP Dockmaster for managing MCP servers.
Before that, I led major delivery and platform modernization as a Core Team Senior Software Engineer at Evernote, including React/Electron upgrades and a two-tier delivery system for faster UI iteration. As CTO at Cotalker, I built and led a multidisciplinary engineering org, migrated 100K+ lines from FlowJS to TypeScript, transformed EC2 into Kubernetes microservices on AWS, and drove security hardening through ethical-hacking audits. I enjoy product-first engineering and teams that take system design, reliability, and security seriously.

Staff Engineer
DcSpark
Sep 2023 - Mar 2026 (2 years 6 months)
Designed and built Shinkai Local AI, a privacy-preserving local-first Rust agent runtime shipped as a cross-platform desktop app. Owned the agent tool/protocol layer and shipped MCP Dockmaster, plus bootstrapped AgentLayer and a Midnight Layer-2 network achieving 1K+ TPS with selective privacy.
Senior Software Engineer
Evernote
Dec 2022 - Jul 2023 (7 months)
Modernized Evernote's core desktop app by upgrading React, Electron, and the build toolchain and migrating thousands of lines of code on a 10-year-old codebase. Architected a two-tier delivery system with OTA-updated UI and slower native store-released core to decouple iteration speed from store review gating.
Chief Technology Officer
Cotalker
Jul 2019 - Dec 2022 (3 years 5 months)
Led engineering across product, infrastructure, and team as CTO following a $3.2M seed, setting the hiring bar and adapting Shape Up/agile to team capacity. Migrated 100K+ lines of FlowJS to TypeScript and transformed monolithic EC2 hosting into Kubernetes/Helm microservices on AWS with observable, scalable single-trigger CI/CD and security hardening.
Tech Lead
Zeke
Oct 2016 - May 2019 (2 years 7 months)
Built from scratch Chile’s official mobile applications for Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación, supporting high-security, high-reliability, country-scale citizen services. Led technical delivery and digital transformation including agile delivery, CI/CD automation, and Docker/Kubernetes containerization.
Software Engineer, R&D
Lifeware
May 2012 - Sep 2017 (5 years 4 months)
As the first engineer hired after the founders, helped scale Lifeware’s R&D operation and build cross-industry hardware-software solutions across healthcare, assistive technology, mining, and manufacturing. Delivered award-winning product work, including the 3IE Award for software innovation (2014) and Microsoft Imagine Cup finalist representation (2013, 2014).
