Akash Kumar
@akashkumar7902
I’m Akash Kumar, an SDE and open-source contributor (GSoC, Linux Foundation) specializing in Go, Python, and distributed systems.
What I'm looking for
Hello, I am Akash Kumar. I bring a strong engineering background and hands-on industry experience to the table.
As a Software Development Engineer at Keploy, I have built impactful infrastructure. My work includes designing a Kubernetes proxy microservice with multiple REST endpoints and mutating webhooks for live API traffic recording, as well as developing a local agent and browser extension that covers the majority of customer use cases.
Beyond my full-time role, I am highly passionate about open source. I contributed to Google Summer of Code with openSUSE, where I am building an LLM-powered pipeline for scene-level video summarisation with semantic search. Additionally, my participation in the Linux Foundation Mentorship Program highlights my ability to quickly dive into unfamiliar codebases and deliver meaningful contributions.
With a solid grasp of Go, Python, distributed systems, and a proven track record of shipping production features, I am eager to bring my skills, drive, and technical expertise to a dynamic engineering team.
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
During my GSoC term, I will build a reproducible benchmark framework to determine the optimal cloud-native StorageClass for Uyuni on RKE2.
• Designed a Go microservice exposing 15+ REST APIs and Kubernetes admission webhooks that record and replay live API traffic, enabling teams to validate microservice changes in production without writing tests.
• Shipped a one-click “debug bundle” workflow that auto-packages redacted logs and diagnostics for unreplayable test runs, replacing 8+ manual steps and saving about 10 hours per incident

Architected an AI-powered video search system in Python that converts full-length videos into searchable scenes. Built and open-sourced the project using an end-to-end processing pipeline.
• Introduced parallel matrix testing in Keploy’s CI/CD pipeline across 4 binary combinations (local vs released, OSS vs enterprise) via shared artifacts, cutting feedback time from about 40 min to about 3 min.
• Implemented a 3-retry mechanism with auto-quarantine for flaky tests, reducing false-positive failures from roughly 15% to under 2% in release pipelines.

Contributed to KCL’s package manager by implementing Go’s Minimum Version Selection algorithm and adding dependency-graph and cyclic-dependency functionality. Added tests and improved coverage to 43%.
• Shipped 8 merged PRs to KCL’s package manager (kcl-lang/kpm), implementing Go’s Minimum Version Selection algorithm, a dependency-graph subcommand, cyclic-dependency detection, and tests raising coverage to 43%.
