Responsibilities
- Oversee the surgical team, coordinating activities and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, providing anesthesia monitoring and patient care
- Develop and implement surgical protocols, ensuring best practices are followed
- Train and mentor junior technicians in surgical techniques and patient care
- Manage surgical inventory, including instruments and supplies, ensuring readiness for procedures
- Conduct post-operative care and monitor patients during recovery
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for all surgical cases
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in a veterinary surgical setting, with a focus on anesthesia and surgical assistance
- Current certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT)
- Strong knowledge of surgical techniques, anesthesia protocols, and post-operative care
Preferred:
- Leadership experience in a veterinary setting
- Certification in Veterinary Surgical Technology (VST)
- Experience with specialized surgical procedures and advanced techniques
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in surgical instrumentation and sterilization techniques
- Familiarity with veterinary anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment
- Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems
