Role Overview
We are looking for a Principal Urban Sociologist to lead our research initiatives focused on understanding urban dynamics, social behavior, and community development. In this role, you will leverage advanced sociological methodologies to analyze urban environments and inform policy-making, driving meaningful change in communities.
Responsibilities
- Design and lead comprehensive research projects that explore urban social structures, community interactions, and policy impacts.
- Utilize quantitative and qualitative research methods to gather and analyze data on urban populations and their behaviors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into actionable insights that inform urban planning and policy decisions.
- Engage with community stakeholders and present findings through reports, presentations, and workshops to foster collaborative approaches to urban challenges.
- Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the development of best practices in urban sociology research.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Sociology, Urban Studies, or a related field with a focus on urban environments.
- 10+ years of experience in urban sociology or related research, with a proven track record of leading impactful studies.
- Extensive knowledge of sociological theory and methodologies, including statistical analysis and ethnographic research techniques.
Preferred:
- Experience working with governmental agencies, NGOs, or community organizations on urban policy initiatives.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata) and geographic information systems (GIS).
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and experience presenting at academic and policy conferences.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including surveys, focus groups, and case studies.
- Proficiency in statistical software for data analysis and visualization.
- Familiarity with urban planning principles and policies, as well as community engagement strategies.
