Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Assistant Professor of Urban Planning to join our academic team. This role is integral to shaping the future of urban studies, engaging students with contemporary issues in urbanism, sustainability, and social equity while contributing to research that influences urban policy and practice.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver high-quality courses in urban planning, focusing on both theoretical foundations and practical applications
- Engage in impactful research that addresses urban challenges and contributes to the academic community
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate student research, fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment
- Participate in departmental governance and contribute to curriculum development and program assessment
- Establish partnerships with local government, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance practical learning opportunities
- Publish research findings in reputable academic journals and present at relevant conferences
- Actively engage in community outreach and service activities that promote urban planning education and advocacy
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Urban Planning or a closely related field
- Demonstrable expertise in urban planning theory, methods, and practices
- Experience in teaching at the university level with positive evaluations
- A strong record of research, including publications in peer-reviewed journals
Preferred:
- Experience working in diverse urban contexts and understanding of equity issues in urban planning
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration and community-based research
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and urban modeling software
- Experience with data analysis tools and techniques relevant to urban studies
- Familiarity with urban design principles and sustainable development practices
