Role Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Stenocaptioner to join our dynamic and innovative team. In this role, you will utilize your expertise in real-time captioning to provide high-quality, accurate, and timely captions for live broadcasts, events, and various multimedia content, ensuring accessibility for all viewers. Your work will play a critical role in enhancing communication and understanding across diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
- Perform real-time captioning for live events, including conferences, meetings, and broadcasts, ensuring accuracy and clarity in communication.
- Utilize advanced stenographic equipment and software to deliver captions with minimal latency, adhering to industry standards and guidelines.
- Collaborate with production teams and event organizers to understand content and context, ensuring captions meet the specific needs of different audiences.
- Conduct thorough pre-event preparation, including reviewing scripts and familiarizing yourself with technical terminology and speaker accents.
- Monitor and troubleshoot captioning equipment and software during events, addressing any technical issues promptly and effectively.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion while working in various environments and with diverse clientele.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Proven experience as a Stenocaptioner or in a similar role with a strong portfolio of captioning work.
- Certification from a recognized Stenography program or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in real-time captioning using stenographic equipment and software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to fast-paced environments while maintaining high-quality output.
Preferred:
- Experience with various captioning software and tools, such as CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) systems.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for captioning and accessibility.
- Familiarity with broadcast and streaming platforms.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using stenographic equipment and captioning software to deliver real-time captions.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to captioning equipment and software.
- Familiarity with industry-standard captioning formats and guidelines.
