Role Overview
The State Highway Police Department is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented State Highway Police Officers to ensure the safety and security of our roadways. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for enforcing traffic laws, investigating accidents, and engaging with the community to promote safe driving practices. You will be an integral part of our mission to reduce traffic-related incidents while providing a visible and approachable presence on the highways.
Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas of highways to deter and detect violations of traffic laws, ensuring the safety of all road users.
- Investigate traffic accidents, gather evidence, and prepare detailed reports for legal and administrative purposes.
- Enforce local, state, and federal traffic laws, issuing citations or warnings as appropriate.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies and emergency services to respond to incidents and ensure public safety.
- Engage with the community through outreach programs, educating the public on safe driving practices and promoting traffic safety campaigns.
- Attend training sessions to remain current on law enforcement techniques, policies, and procedures.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a police academy training program is required.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Strong physical fitness and the ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with the public.
- Demonstrated commitment to community service and safety.
Preferred:
- Experience in law enforcement or public safety roles.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
- Familiarity with accident investigation techniques.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in using law enforcement technology, including radios and computer systems for report writing and data management.
- Ability to utilize GPS and navigation systems for efficient patrolling and response.

Location
This is a hybrid position, requiring successful candidates to work from the office at least 3 days a week while also allowing for some remote work flexibility.
