Role Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified and innovative Assistant Professor of Stagecraft to join our esteemed academic institution. This role involves leading the development and delivery of a comprehensive curriculum in stagecraft, encompassing both theory and practical applications, while fostering an inclusive environment that stimulates creativity and collaboration among students.
Responsibilities
- Design and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in stagecraft, including lighting, sound, set design, and technical direction
- Develop and implement hands-on workshops and training sessions that enhance students' technical skills and artistic sensibilities
- Advise and mentor students in their academic and professional pursuits, including collaborative projects and productions
- Conduct research in the field of stagecraft, contributing to the body of knowledge and understanding of contemporary practices
- Participate actively in departmental, college, and university committees to support the mission and goals of the institution
- Foster a culture of inclusivity and diversity within the classroom and department
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Theatre, Stagecraft, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience in teaching stagecraft or related courses at the college level
- Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in stagecraft techniques and design principles
- Experience collaborating on theatrical productions in various capacities
Preferred:
- Published research or creative work in reputable journals or platforms
- Proficiency with industry-standard software and technologies related to stagecraft
- Experience with online teaching methodologies and tools
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in lighting design, sound design, set construction, and stage management
- Familiarity with CAD software, lighting consoles, and audio mixing equipment
- Knowledge of the latest trends and technologies in the performing arts
