Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Professor in Scene and Lighting Design to join our esteemed faculty. In this role, you will be at the forefront of educating the next generation of artists and designers, delivering cutting-edge curriculum that integrates both theoretical knowledge and practical application within the realm of scene and lighting design.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging lectures, workshops, and hands-on training sessions focused on scene and lighting design principles, techniques, and technologies.
- Guide students in the creation of innovative projects that reflect current industry standards and practices, fostering their artistic and technical skills.
- Conduct research in the field of scene and lighting design, contributing to academic publications and conferences.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to enhance interdisciplinary learning opportunities across the arts and design departments.
- Mentor students through individual consultations, providing constructive feedback and support in their artistic development.
- Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum development, and program assessment initiatives.
- Engage with industry partners to establish collaborative projects and internship opportunities for students.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree or higher in Theatre, Design, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in scene and lighting design within academic or professional settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in contemporary design techniques and technologies, including CAD software and lighting design software.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects across various media.
- Experience in teaching at the university level, with a proven ability to inspire and engage students.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in Theatre, Design, or a related field.
- Established network within the industry, including connections with professional organizations and venues.
- Experience with virtual and augmented reality applications in design.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Vectorworks, and lighting design software (e.g., WYSIWYG, Capture).
- Familiarity with various materials and technologies used in set and lighting design, including LED lighting and projection systems.
- Knowledge of current trends in theatre technology and scenic design.
