Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Sign Language Interpreter to join our diverse team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the interpretation services, ensuring clear and effective communication for our clients. You will lead a team of interpreters, promote best practices, and maintain the highest standards of interpretation while facilitating an inclusive environment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality interpretation services in various settings, including meetings, conferences, and educational environments.
- Lead and mentor a team of sign language interpreters, providing guidance on techniques, ethics, and professional conduct.
- Coordinate with clients and stakeholders to assess their needs and tailor interpretation services accordingly.
- Develop and implement training programs for new interpreters to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of the interpretation team to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by soliciting feedback and implementing innovative practices.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Certification from a recognized interpreting organization (e.g., RID, NAD) and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a sign language interpreter.
- Proven leadership skills and experience in managing a team of interpreters.
- Strong understanding of the Deaf culture and community.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, with a high level of proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
Preferred:
- Experience working in educational, medical, or legal settings.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas of interpretation (e.g., legal, medical).
- Experience in developing training materials and programs for interpreters.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in remote interpreting tools and platforms.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and resources for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
- Ability to utilize video conferencing tools effectively for remote interpretation.
