Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Chief Building Inspector to lead our building inspection team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the enforcement of building codes, ordinances, and regulations to ensure public safety and compliance. You will provide strategic direction, mentorship, and support to a team of inspectors while enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our inspection processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the building inspection team, ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations.
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, identifying potential hazards and ensuring compliance with approved plans.
- Review architectural and engineering plans to verify compliance with zoning laws and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement inspection policies, procedures, and training programs to enhance the capabilities of the inspection team.
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to address building-related issues and provide technical guidance.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and corrective actions taken.
- Stay abreast of changes in building codes and regulations, implementing necessary updates to policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports and presentations for city officials and community stakeholders on inspection activities and compliance status.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in building inspection or a related field, with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Thorough knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in complex situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Building Official (CBO) or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Experience in a municipal or government setting.
- Familiarity with construction methods, materials, and safety practices.
- Master’s degree in construction management, architecture, or a related field.
