Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Produce Manager to join our team. In this role, you will support the Produce Manager in overseeing the daily operations of our produce department, ensuring that our customers receive the highest quality fruits and vegetables while maintaining optimal inventory levels and product presentation.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing the produce department's daily operations, including ordering, receiving, and merchandising of products.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and company standards for quality and freshness.
- Collaborate with the Produce Manager to develop and implement promotional strategies that drive sales and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Train and mentor team members on best practices for handling, displaying, and selling produce.
- Monitor inventory levels, conduct regular audits, and assist in minimizing waste through effective stock management.
- Build strong relationships with vendors to ensure the availability of high-quality products and negotiate pricing when applicable.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher in a related field is a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in a grocery or produce department, with a strong understanding of produce quality standards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and customers.
Preferred:
- Experience with inventory management systems and point-of-sale software.
- Knowledge of organic and sustainable produce practices.
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and retail software.
- Basic understanding of produce handling and storage best practices.
