Role Overview
We are seeking a Principal Political Geographer to join our dynamic research team. This role will focus on analyzing spatial data to inform political strategies and enhance our understanding of geopolitical landscapes. You will lead advanced research projects, leveraging geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and spatial analysis to provide actionable insights that influence policy decisions and strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive research projects that analyze political boundaries, demographic trends, and spatial patterns influencing geopolitical events.
- Develop and refine methodologies for spatial data collection and analysis, ensuring high standards of accuracy and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate geographical insights into strategic recommendations for stakeholders.
- Present findings through detailed reports, visualizations, and presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor and guide junior researchers in the application of GIS and spatial analysis techniques to enhance their skills and project contributions.
- Stay informed on global political developments and emerging trends, integrating this knowledge into ongoing research efforts.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- PhD in Geography, Political Science, or a related field with a focus on spatial analysis.
- 10+ years of experience in political geography or a related discipline, with a proven track record of leading complex research projects.
- Deep expertise in GIS technologies and software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and remote sensing tools.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively.
Preferred:
- Experience working with governmental or non-governmental organizations on policy-related projects.
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques applied to spatial data.
- Proven ability to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Advanced proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing techniques.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and automation.
- Experience with spatial databases (e.g., PostGIS) and web mapping technologies.
