Role Overview
We are looking for a Principal Physical Geographer to join our innovative team, where you will lead research initiatives and provide strategic direction to complex geographical projects. Your expertise will play a critical role in analyzing physical landscapes, climate systems, and environmental processes to inform sustainable practices and policies. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to drive impactful change and enhance our understanding of geographical phenomena.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage large-scale research projects focused on physical geography, including landform studies, hydrology, and climate change impacts.
- Develop comprehensive methodologies for data collection, analysis, and interpretation of geographical data.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify geographical challenges and propose evidence-based solutions.
- Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences to disseminate knowledge and foster collaboration within the scientific community.
- Mentor junior geographers and researchers, promoting a culture of learning and innovation within the organization.
- Utilize advanced geospatial tools and software for mapping and modeling geographical phenomena.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Geography, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in physical geography research, including significant contributions to scholarly publications.
- Expertise in geospatial analysis and proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Strong understanding of physical processes impacting the environment, including climatology, geomorphology, and biogeography.
Preferred:
- Experience with remote sensing technologies and data interpretation.
- Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, Python) for data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to secure research funding and manage budgets.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in GIS and remote sensing tools for spatial analysis and modeling.
- Experience with environmental data management and database systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data sets into actionable insights.
