Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Patent Paralegal Manager to lead our patent support team and ensure the efficient and effective management of our patent portfolio. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and filing of patent applications, coordinating with inventors and legal teams, and implementing best practices in patent prosecution processes.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a team of patent paralegals, providing guidance and training to enhance their skills and performance.
- Oversee the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent applications in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with attorneys and inventors to gather necessary information and documentation for patent filings.
- Implement and maintain efficient systems for tracking patent deadlines, renewals, and correspondence.
- Conduct regular audits of patent files to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation.
- Facilitate communication between internal stakeholders and external patent offices to streamline processes.
- Stay updated on changes in patent law and best practices, ensuring the team adheres to the highest standards.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- 5+ years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on patent law and prosecution.
- Proven track record of successfully managing a team in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Strong understanding of patent laws, regulations, and filing procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred:
- Certification as a paralegal (e.g., NALA, NFPA) or similar credential.
- Experience with patent management software and tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in patent management software (e.g., CPA Global, Anaqua).
- Familiarity with legal document management systems and e-filing procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for tracking and reporting.
