Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Intellectual Property Counsel to lead our global IP strategy and manage our extensive portfolio of intellectual property assets at [$COMPANY_NAME]. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive IP strategy that aligns with the business objectives of [$COMPANY_NAME]
- Oversee the acquisition, maintenance, and enforcement of intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets
- Advise on IP-related aspects of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, licensing agreements, and joint ventures
- Lead the IP litigation strategy, working with outside counsel to defend and enforce our IP rights
- Collaborate with R&D, product, and marketing teams to identify and protect innovative ideas and products
- Conduct IP audits to assess the strength of our portfolio and recommend strategies for enhancement
- Educate internal stakeholders on IP matters and best practices to promote awareness and compliance
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- 10+ years of experience in intellectual property law, with a focus on patent prosecution and litigation
- Demonstrated experience managing complex IP portfolios and leading teams
- Strong understanding of relevant IP laws and regulations
- Proven track record of successfully navigating IP disputes and negotiations
Preferred:
- Experience in the technology or biotechnology sectors
- Advanced degree in a technical field (e.g., engineering, life sciences) is a plus
- Membership in a state bar and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in patent law, trademark law, copyright law, and trade secret protection
- Familiarity with software and technology licensing agreements
- Proficient in IP management software and tools
