Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Occupational Health and Safety to lead our organization in creating a safe, compliant, and healthy workplace environment. In this strategic role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing health and safety programs that align with our mission and values, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards while fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety policies and programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Lead risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards, and implement effective mitigation strategies to enhance workplace safety.
- Oversee incident investigations, root cause analyses, and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety, ensuring all employees are trained and engaged in health and safety practices.
- Prepare and present health and safety performance metrics and reports to senior management, recommending improvements and strategies to enhance safety outcomes.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes, ensuring the organization remains compliant and proactive in its health and safety initiatives.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety management, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety management systems, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful health and safety programs and initiatives.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a related field or relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, or equivalent).
- Experience in a multi-site or complex organizational structure.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in safety management software and tools for tracking safety metrics and compliance.
- Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools to assess health and safety performance.
- Strong understanding of emergency response planning and business continuity strategies.
