Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Mounted Police Captain to lead and manage our esteemed mounted unit. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing operations, ensuring the welfare of the horses and officers, and maintaining public safety through community engagement and law enforcement initiatives. Your expertise in equestrian skills, law enforcement techniques, and leadership will drive the effectiveness of our mounted patrol.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the mounted unit, including the training, supervision, and performance evaluation of officers
- Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance public safety and community relations
- Oversee the care and management of police horses, ensuring their health and fitness for duty
- Coordinate mounted patrols for special events, parades, and public gatherings, ensuring optimal visibility and engagement
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and community organizations to foster relationships and improve public safety
- Conduct regular assessments of unit performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in law enforcement, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role
- Demonstrated expertise in equestrian skills, including horse handling and training
- Strong knowledge of law enforcement policies, procedures, and community policing strategies
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage and motivate a diverse team
Preferred:
- Experience in a mounted unit or equestrian law enforcement
- Advanced training in crisis management and conflict resolution
- Familiarity with community outreach and engagement initiatives
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in the use of law enforcement communication tools and technologies
- Skilled in the use of incident reporting software and data analysis tools
- Understanding of veterinary care and horse management practices
