Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Professor of Mineralogy to join our esteemed faculty. This role involves delivering high-quality instruction, conducting impactful research in mineralogy, and contributing to the academic community through service and collaboration. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of geoscientists by integrating innovative teaching methods and active research opportunities into the curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in mineralogy, petrology, and related fields
- Conduct original research in mineralogy, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, and secure funding through grants
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects and academic pursuits
- Engage in departmental service, including committee participation and curriculum development
- Foster interdisciplinary collaborations within the department and with external institutions
- Participate in outreach activities to promote geoscience education and research
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated expertise in mineralogy, including extensive knowledge of mineral properties and analytical techniques
- Strong record of scholarly research and publications in reputable journals
- Teaching experience at the university level
Preferred:
- Postdoctoral research experience
- Experience in utilizing modern analytical techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), or mass spectrometry
- Proficiency in fieldwork and geological mapping
- Experience in interdisciplinary research projects
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in geological mapping and mineral identification techniques
- Proficient in data analysis software relevant to mineralogy research
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies
