Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Library Specialist to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will play a critical part in managing and providing access to a comprehensive collection of medical literature and resources, supporting healthcare professionals in their pursuit of knowledge and excellence in patient care.
Responsibilities
- Manage the acquisition, organization, and preservation of medical literature and resources, ensuring accessibility for all users.
- Provide expert reference and research assistance to healthcare professionals, facilitating timely access to pertinent information.
- Conduct information literacy training sessions for staff and users, promoting effective research strategies and resource utilization.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and library patrons to understand their information needs and develop tailored solutions.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of medical resources, databases, and emerging technologies to enhance library services.
- Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new library systems and technologies to improve service delivery.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a medical or health sciences library environment.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare information resources.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct advanced literature searches and provide research support.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with library management systems and electronic resource management.
- Experience in providing training and instruction on library resources and information literacy.
- Knowledge of data management and systematic review processes.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in using bibliographic databases such as PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Scopus.
- Experience with citation management tools such as EndNote, RefWorks, or Zotero.
- Strong IT skills, including experience with web-based library services and digital repositories.
