Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Systems Architect to lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable mainframe systems that meet our business's evolving needs. In this role, you will work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements, craft architectural solutions, and oversee system integrations that ensure high availability and performance across our technology landscape.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement high-performance mainframe solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical requirements.
- Conduct thorough feasibility studies and risk assessments to inform architectural choices and system designs.
- Lead cross-functional teams through the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to deployment and maintenance.
- Establish and enforce best practices for mainframe application development, including coding standards, testing protocols, and documentation procedures.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Collaborate with IT operations to ensure seamless integration between mainframe systems and other enterprise applications.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 8+ years of experience in mainframe architecture and development, with a strong focus on COBOL, JCL, and DB2.
- Proven track record of designing high-availability systems and implementing disaster recovery strategies.
- Experience with performance tuning and optimization of mainframe applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
Preferred:
- Experience with cloud integration strategies for mainframe systems.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices in a mainframe context.
- Certifications in mainframe technologies or architecture frameworks.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep expertise in mainframe technologies, including z/OS, CICS, and IMS.
- Proficient in programming languages such as COBOL, Assembler, and Java.
- Experience with mainframe monitoring tools like IBM OMEGAMON or CA APM.
- Knowledge of data management tools and techniques for mainframe environments.
