Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned General Counsel to join our executive leadership team at [$COMPANY_NAME]. In this pivotal role, you will provide strategic legal guidance and counsel, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while aligning legal strategies with our organizational goals. You will lead and manage the legal department, overseeing all legal matters while fostering a culture of ethical business practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead the legal strategy for the organization, advising the executive team on key legal and regulatory issues
- Manage all legal aspects of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management
- Oversee the drafting and negotiation of complex contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
- Provide legal advice on corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic partnerships
- Ensure the organization’s compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including data privacy and intellectual property laws
- Develop and implement training programs for staff on legal compliance and risk management
- Represent the organization in legal proceedings and manage relationships with external legal counsel
- Monitor legal trends and changes in legislation that may impact the organization’s operations
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in at least one jurisdiction
- 10+ years of legal experience, preferably as in-house counsel or in a law firm specializing in corporate law
- Demonstrated expertise in corporate governance, compliance, and risk management
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills with a track record of managing complex legal matters
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
Preferred:
- Experience in the technology or financial services sectors
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations, including GDPR and CCPA
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a legal department
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in legal research tools and technology, including Westlaw or LexisNexis
- Understanding of contract management systems and compliance software
- Experience with risk assessment tools and methodologies
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders
- Strong leadership skills with a collaborative approach to decision-making
