Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Immunohematology to lead our innovative laboratory operations focused on addressing complex immunohematology challenges. This pivotal role will leverage your expertise in blood bank operations and transfusion medicine, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality in our immunohematology services while guiding our research initiatives and operational strategies.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the immunohematology laboratory, overseeing all aspects of operations, including quality assurance, compliance, and adherence to regulatory standards
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive research projects focused on the advancement of immunohematology techniques and technologies
- Provide expert consultation on complex cases, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and safety
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, mentoring staff, and promoting professional development within the team
- Manage laboratory budgets, resource allocation, and staffing to align with organizational goals
- Stay abreast of industry advancements and integrate best practices into laboratory operations
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- PhD or MD in a relevant field with board certification in blood banking or transfusion medicine
- 8+ years of experience in immunohematology with a proven track record of leadership in a laboratory setting
- Extensive knowledge of regulatory standards (CAP, AABB, FDA) and quality management systems
- Strong ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions that enhance laboratory performance
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate across various teams and stakeholders
Preferred:
- Experience in a research-focused immunohematology environment
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals related to transfusion medicine
- Leadership experience in a fully remote laboratory environment
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in immunohematology testing methodologies and technologies
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health records (EHR)
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and quality control software
