Role Overview
We are seeking a Freight Car Repair Supervisor who will be responsible for overseeing the repair and maintenance activities of freight cars to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards. This role involves leading a team of skilled technicians and coordinating with various departments to optimize repair workflows and maintain high-quality standards in all repair processes.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily operations of the freight car repair facility, ensuring all repair work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and processes that enhance the efficiency of repair operations.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of repair work to ensure quality and adherence to safety regulations.
- Manage inventory and procurement of parts and materials necessary for repairs, negotiating with suppliers as needed.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment status for reporting and analysis.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in freight car repair or related mechanical field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Strong knowledge of freight car systems, repair processes, and industry safety standards.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
Preferred:
- Experience with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Technical certifications in mechanical or electrical repair.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management systems and software for tracking repairs and inventory.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems as they pertain to freight cars.
- Experience with diagnostic and repair tools, including electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking work orders and inventory.
