Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Fire Engine Pump Operator to join our dedicated firefighting team. In this critical role, you will oversee the operation and maintenance of fire engine pumps, ensuring optimal performance during emergency response situations. Your leadership will be essential in training and mentoring junior operators while coordinating with other emergency services to effectively manage fire suppression efforts.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain fire engine pumps, ensuring they are functioning efficiently and effectively during emergency calls.
- Lead a team of pump operators, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their technical skills and ensure safety protocols are followed.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on fire engine equipment, including pumps, hoses, and related systems, to ensure readiness at all times.
- Coordinate with firefighting crews to determine water supply needs and implement strategies for effective water delivery during firefighting operations.
- Respond to emergency alarms and incidents promptly, ensuring that the pump apparatus is deployed efficiently to support firefighting efforts.
- Document operational activities and maintain accurate records of pump operations, maintenance, and inspections.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Fire Engine Pump Operator or in a related firefighting role.
- Extensive knowledge of fire apparatus operations, water supply systems, and firefighting techniques.
- Certification from a recognized fire service training program, including pump operations.
- Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of training and mentoring junior team members.
Preferred:
- Experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a firefighting organization.
- Advanced certifications in specialized fire operations, such as hazardous materials or technical rescue.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in high-stress environments.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of various fire engine pump models and associated equipment.
- Familiarity with fire service communications systems and incident command protocols.
- Ability to leverage technology for reporting and data management related to fire operations.
