Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Bird Trapper to join our innovative wildlife management team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing effective trapping strategies to manage bird populations while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will leverage your expertise to lead a team of trappers, providing training and guidance to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement trapping programs tailored to specific bird species and environmental conditions.
- Lead and mentor a team of trappers, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and ethical wildlife management.
- Conduct field assessments to evaluate bird populations and habitat conditions, using data to inform trapping strategies.
- Collaborate with environmental agencies, stakeholders, and conservation groups to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain and oversee the inventory of trapping equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness for field operations.
- Document and report trapping activities, ensuring accurate record-keeping and data analysis for ongoing program improvement.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in wildlife management or a related field, with a focus on avian species.
- Proven track record of successful trapping program implementation and leadership.
- Strong knowledge of bird behavior, ecology, and habitat management practices.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and external partners.
Preferred:
- Experience with advanced trapping techniques and humane handling practices.
- Relevant certifications in wildlife management or animal handling.
- Familiarity with GIS and data analysis tools for wildlife monitoring.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in safe trapping methods and bird handling techniques.
