Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Assistant Band Director to join our dynamic music program. In this role, you will support the development and execution of a comprehensive band curriculum, fostering a love for music among students and enhancing their performance skills. You will collaborate closely with the Band Director and other staff to create a vibrant and inclusive environment that promotes artistic expression.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, organizing, and conducting of band rehearsals and performances, ensuring high-quality musical experiences for all students
- Provide individualized instruction to students, helping them develop their technical skills and musical understanding
- Collaborate with the Band Director to select appropriate music repertoire that aligns with educational goals and student interests
- Support administrative tasks related to the band program, including scheduling, communication with parents, and inventory management
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging atmosphere for students of all skill levels
- Promote the band program through community outreach and recruitment efforts
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field
- Experience teaching or directing a band program at the secondary level
- Strong proficiency in at least one band instrument
- Ability to read and interpret sheet music and provide constructive feedback
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Music Education or a related field
- Experience with marching band and/or competitive ensembles
- Proficiency in music technology and digital platforms for remote instruction
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Strong understanding of music theory and composition
- Experience with music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius)
- Familiarity with online teaching platforms and tools for remote music education
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
