Role Overview
[$COMPANY_NAME] is seeking an experienced Master Aviation Technician to lead complex aircraft maintenance, overhaul, inspection, and troubleshooting activities. As a senior-level technician you will own airworthiness outcomes across narrowbody and widebody fleets (or turboprop/rotorcraft where applicable), drive root-cause failure investigations, and set technical standards for line and heavy maintenance. This role requires a consummate aviation maintenance professional with deep regulatory knowledge (FAA/EASA/CAA), hands-on expertise with airframe and powerplant systems, and a proven record of mentoring technicians and influencing maintenance operations and reliability programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, base maintenance inspections (C- and D-check equivalents), structural repairs, and system replacements in accordance with approved data and regulatory requirements.
- Perform detailed fault isolation and troubleshooting on avionics, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, environmental control, landing gear, and propulsion systems using schematic, wiring diagrams, borescopes, and OEM troubleshooting procedures.
- Authorize return-to-service activities where applicable and produce accurate maintenance release documentation consistent with 14 CFR Part 43/145 (or applicable local regulations).
- Develop and maintain corrective action plans and technical worksheets; author and maintain clear Maintenance Data Records and discrepancies in AMOS/TRAX/IFS.
- Drive root-cause analysis (RCA) and reliability improvement projects using tools such as FMECA, 8D, and structured problem solving to reduce repeat discrepancies and increase dispatch reliability.
- Mentor, train, and assess the competency of licensed and non-licensed maintenance personnel; write and deliver technical training modules and on-the-job coaching.
- Partner with Maintenance Control, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to scope repairs, obtain engineering dispositions, and expedite critical spares.
- Ensure strict compliance with Safety Management System (SMS) processes, hazardous materials handling, tooling control, workcards, and human factors best practices.
- Contribute to maintenance planning and workforce forecasting; advise on parts standardization, time and motion studies, and labor hour estimation for heavy checks and retrofits.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification, or equivalent national license (EASA Part-66 Category B1/B2) as applicable to [$COMPANY_LOCATION].
- Minimum 8-12 years of progressive aircraft maintenance experience with a combination of line and base maintenance on jet and/or turboprop aircraft.
- Demonstrated experience with structural repairs, composite patching, non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques (eddy current, dye penetrant, ultrasound), and borescope inspections.
- Strong systems knowledge: avionics, electrical power systems, fuel, hydraulic, pneumatics, environmental control systems, and engine accessory systems.
- Proven competency using maintenance management systems (e.g., AMOS, TRAX, IFS) and CMM/IPC/OEM maintenance manuals.
- Excellent technical documentation skills and familiarity with 14 CFR/Part 145, EASA Part-145, or equivalent civil aviation regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering drawings; proficiency with test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, pressure gauges, torque wrenches).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated leadership in safety-critical environments.
Preferred:
- Inspection Authorization (IA) or equivalent advanced certification.
- Experience with specific platforms (e.g., Boeing 737/777/787, Airbus A320/A330/A350, Bombardier, Embraer, ATR, Sikorsky) or specific engine types (CFM56, GE90, PW1000, etc.).
- Prior experience within an MRO, OEM support, or airline heavy maintenance organization.
- Certifications in NDT, composite repair, or structural bonding.
- Familiarity with lean maintenance, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Aircraft systems troubleshooting and fault isolation methodologies; ATA chapter familiarity.
- Maintenance Information Systems: AMOS, TRAX, IFS, Ramco or equivalent.
- Proficiency with electrical/electronic test equipment, borescopes, hydraulic test stands, and engine ground run procedures.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): eddy current, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant testing fundamentals.
- Familiarity with avionics suites (FMS, EFIS, ADS-B, TCAS) and databus architectures (ARINC 429/ARINC 664/AFDX).
- Hands-on experience with composite materials, bonding, fastener control, and structural repair design data.
- Strong understanding of maintenance planning, MEL/CDL interpretation, and Minimum Equipment List processes.
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Proven track record of leading architecture decision records (ADRs) for maintenance process changes, including writing technical justification and change control documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior technicians through structured coaching and competency assessments.
- Data-driven mindset: use maintenance data, reliability metrics, and KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, dispatch reliability) to prioritize work and influence stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, methodical work habits, and commitment to safety culture and compliance.
- Resilient under pressure with excellent problem-solving skills for rapid recovery of AOG events.
- Collaborative communicator who can liaise effectively with flight crews, engineering, vendors, and regulatory inspectors.
