Role Overview
As Lead Aircraft Mechanic you will own technical delivery and operational readiness for assigned fleets at [$COMPANY_NAME]. You will lead multi-disciplinary maintenance teams to execute scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, heavy and line inspections, structural and avionics troubleshooting, and root-cause corrective actions in compliance with FAA/EASA/CAA regulations and the company's maintenance program. This role requires a hands-on technical leader who can set standards for safety, quality, and on-time aircraft dispatch while mentoring technicians and continuously improving maintenance processes.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coordinate and prioritize daily maintenance operations across line, base, and heavy maintenance activities to meet operational readiness and dispatch reliability targets.
- Perform and sign for complex mechanical, structural, powerplant, and avionics maintenance tasks consistent with A&P/AMT certifications and company procedures; execute and close work orders accurately in the CMMS.
- Lead troubleshooting and fault isolation for hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, environmental control, flight control, landing gear, and engine accessory systems using technical data, wiring diagrams, borescope inspection, oscilloscope diagnostics, and engine trend analysis tools.
- Implement and enforce inspection programs: A-check/B-check/C-check tasks, ADs (airworthiness directives), SBs (service bulletins), structural repairs, corrosion control, NDT (eddy current, ultrasonic) and rigging checks.
- Drive continuous improvement: create and maintain standard work, update technical publications, contribute to maintenance program revisions, and author engineering requests or repair deviations when necessary.
- Mentor and develop mechanics: conduct technical training, lead competence assessments, oversee apprenticeship progression, and run effective shift handovers and briefings.
- Manage safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance: coordinate with QA, continuing airworthiness management, and flight operations for audits, findings closure, and corrective action plans.
- Coordinate parts, tooling, and vendor interactions: manage kitting for heavy maintenance, control consumables, verify shelf-life items, and oversee contracted repairs and component exchanges.
- Maintain accurate technical records, logbooks, and maintenance paperwork to support regulatory inspections and aircraft return-to-service documentation.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate, or equivalent EASA Part-66 Category A/B1/B2 (or national equivalent) with demonstrated recent experience.
- Minimum 7+ years hands-on aircraft maintenance experience including line and shop-level work on regional or narrow/widebody transport category aircraft; at least 2 years in a senior/lead role.
- In-depth knowledge of aircraft systems: airframe, engines, APU, fuel, hydraulic, electrical, environmental, flight controls, landing gear, and avionics interfaces.
- Proven experience reading and applying structural repair manuals, IPCs, SRMs, wiring diagrams, AMM, CMM, and applicable service bulletins and airworthiness directives.
- Strong competency with maintenance tracking systems/CMMS (e.g., AMOS, Ramco, Trax) and electronic technical publications.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise teams, prioritize work under operational pressure, and make safety-critical decisions.
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass company background, drug, and medical screening per regulatory requirements.
Preferred:
- EASA Part-66 license or multi-certification across categories (A/B1/B2).
- Experience with specific airframes such as Boeing 737/737NG/737MAX, Airbus A320 family, Embraer E-Jets, Bombardier CRJ/Challenger, or ATR fleets.
- Avionics experience: experience interfacing with FMS, EFIS, ADS-B, TCAS, and LRUs; familiarity with DO-178/DO-160 considerations.
- Certifications in NDT (Level II/III), composite repair, or welding.
- Experience managing vendor heavy maintenance projects and component overhaul coordination.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep expertise in aircraft maintenance practices: AMM, SRM, IPC, CMM, MEL/NOTAM/FRM application and dispatch decision making.
- Proficiency with maintenance management systems: AMOS, Ramco, Trax, Rusada, or equivalent CMMS.
- Diagnostic tools and instrumentation: borescope inspection, multimeter, oscilloscope, hydraulic test benches, engine run equipment, and vibration analysis tools.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks: FAA FARs, EASA Part-M/Part-145, CAA regulations, and acceptable means of compliance (AMOCs).
- Familiarity with aircraft data systems, ACARS, DFDR/FOQA basics, and integration of avionics LRUs during troubleshooting.
- Competence in technical IT systems: electronic tech pubs, digital logbooks, Microsoft Office/Excel for maintenance trending and KPI dashboards.
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
