Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Underwriting to lead our automobile and property underwriting teams. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for establishing underwriting guidelines, optimizing pricing strategies, and ensuring disciplined risk selection to drive profitability and growth across our product lines.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive underwriting strategies for automobile and property lines, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and market conditions.
- Lead a team of underwriters, providing mentorship and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Analyze underwriting performance metrics and adjust strategies to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with actuarial and data analytics teams to refine pricing models and assess risk exposure accurately.
- Establish and enhance relationships with external stakeholders, including brokers, agents, and regulatory bodies.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to inform underwriting practices and policy development.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 7+ years of underwriting experience in automobile and property insurance, with a proven track record of leadership and strategic decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, develop actionable insights, and implement effective underwriting policies.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the insurance industry.
Preferred:
- Experience with advanced underwriting technologies and tools, including predictive analytics and machine learning applications.
- Professional certifications such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or equivalent.
