You will collaborate with software engineers, SREs, QA, and product teams to embed repeatable, observable automation across the delivery lifecycle and reduce mean time to release and recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement automation solutions for build, test, and deployment workflows using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Tekton.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) templates and modules using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi to provision and validate cloud resources across AWS/Azure/GCP.
  • Design, implement, and scale automated test frameworks (unit, integration, contract, system, performance) using frameworks like pytest, JUnit, TestNG, Robot Framework, or Playwright.
  • Automate environment provisioning and lifecycle management with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and operator patterns; integrate automation with service meshes and ingress controllers where applicable.
  • Build and maintain observability for automation flows: logging, metrics, distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Prometheus, Grafana) and alerting to shorten incident resolution time.
  • Integrate security and compliance checks into pipelines (SAST/DAST, dependency scanning, container image scanning) using tools such as Snyk, SonarQube, Trivy, or Clair.
  • Create and own automation runbooks, playbooks, and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs); lead code reviews and enforce automation best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to measure automation ROI, define SLAs for pipelines, and drive continuous improvement via reliability and performance metrics.
  • Mentor junior engineers on automation patterns, CI/CD design, and testability principles; participate in on-call rotations for automation-critical systems as needed.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software or platform automation engineering, DevOps, or SRE-oriented automation roles.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent systems.
  • Practical experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi) and modular, reusable IaC patterns.
  • Strong scripting and programming skills in Python, Go, or Bash; ability to write maintainable automation libraries and tests.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes (Helm, Operators, kubectl automation).
  • Familiarity integrating security testing and compliance scans into automated pipelines.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, OpenTelemetry) and incident postmortem practices.

Preferred:

  • Experience with chaos engineering and fault-injection frameworks (Chaos Mesh, LitmusChaos) to validate automation resilience.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native service meshes (Istio, Linkerd) and how automation interacts with service routing and security policies.
  • Background in performance and load testing tools (k6, Gatling), and automating performance gates in pipelines.
  • Certifications such as CNCF Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate, or relevant cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Experience with enterprise release orchestration tools (Spinnaker, Harness) or feature-flag platforms (LaunchDarkly, Unleash).

  • Data-driven mindset: set KPIs for pipeline reliability, deployment frequency, lead time for changes, and mean time to recovery (MTTR).
  • Proactive mentorship: track record of coaching junior engineers and elevating team automation maturity.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a pragmatic approach to prioritizing automation investments that maximize developer productivity.
