Role Overview
We are seeking a distinguished scholar to fill the position of Endowed Chair in Asian Studies, a pivotal role aimed at advancing knowledge and understanding of the diverse cultures, languages, and histories of Asia. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the academic landscape and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, while providing leadership in research, teaching, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Lead and innovate in research initiatives that promote the scholarly study of Asian cultures, languages, and histories, contributing to the body of knowledge in the field.
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses, developing curricula that reflect the latest research and scholarship in Asian Studies.
- Mentor and guide students, fostering a rich learning environment that encourages critical thinking and interdisciplinary exploration.
- Engage with faculty across disciplines to enhance collaborative research projects and interdisciplinary programs related to Asian Studies.
- Organize academic events, workshops, and community outreach initiatives that highlight Asian cultural contributions.
- Publish original research in reputable academic journals, contributing to the ongoing discourse in Asian Studies.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Asian Studies or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated track record of scholarly research with a significant publication record in reputable academic journals.
- Experience in teaching at the university level, with a commitment to high-quality pedagogy.
- Strong ability to engage with and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred:
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration across various fields related to Asian Studies.
- Proficiency in one or more Asian languages.
- Experience in developing and leading community engagement initiatives related to Asian Studies.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with digital humanities tools and methodologies that enhance research in Asian Studies.
- Experience utilizing online platforms for teaching and community engagement.
- Proficiency in data analysis and research methodologies relevant to social sciences and humanities.
