Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Animal Control Officer to join our team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of animals within our community, while also addressing public concerns related to animal welfare. You will play a pivotal role in enforcing animal control laws and regulations, educating the public on responsible pet ownership, and facilitating the humane treatment of animals.
Responsibilities
- Respond to calls regarding stray, lost, or abused animals, and take appropriate action to resolve the situation
- Enforce animal control laws and regulations, ensuring compliance through inspections and investigations
- Capture and transport stray or injured animals to appropriate facilities
- Educate the public on animal care, responsible pet ownership, and local animal laws
- Maintain accurate records of animal control activities, including reports on captured animals and public interactions
- Work collaboratively with local shelters, veterinary clinics, and law enforcement agencies
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in animal care or public safety preferred
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and handling techniques
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with the public
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in emergency situations
Preferred:
- Experience working with animals in a professional or volunteer capacity
- Knowledge of local animal control laws and regulations
- Certification in animal control or humane animal handling
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using software for record-keeping and reporting
- Ability to utilize basic animal handling equipment and tools
- Familiarity with safety practices related to animal control operations
