Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Assistant Professor of African History to join our distinguished faculty. In this role, you will contribute to the academic excellence of our institution by delivering high-quality instruction, engaging in impactful research, and fostering a vibrant learning environment for students. You will have the opportunity to explore diverse historical narratives and contribute to a deeper understanding of African societies and cultures.
Responsibilities
- Design and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in African History, incorporating a variety of pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning
- Conduct original research in African history, leading to publications in reputable academic journals and presenting findings at national and international conferences
- Advise and mentor students in their academic pursuits, including supervising independent research projects and guiding thesis work
- Participate in departmental service, including curriculum development, faculty meetings, and outreach initiatives
- Engage with the broader community to promote understanding and appreciation of African history through public lectures, workshops, and collaborations
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in History, with a focus on African History or a closely related field
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level, including the ability to engage diverse learners
- A strong record of research productivity and potential for future scholarly contributions
Preferred:
- Experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research that intersects with African Studies, Cultural Studies, or related fields
- Familiarity with digital humanities and innovative teaching technologies
- Proficiency in relevant African languages is a plus
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Strong research methodology skills, including qualitative and quantitative analysis
