Role Overview
As the Chief Aerodynamics Engineer at [$COMPANY_NAME], you will lead and innovate in the design and analysis of advanced aerodynamic systems for our cutting-edge projects. Responsibilities
- Lead the aerodynamic design and analysis efforts for new and ongoing projects, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory standards
- Develop and implement advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methodologies to optimize aerodynamic performance
- Direct and mentor a team of aerodynamic engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of aerodynamic considerations into the overall system design
- Conduct rigorous testing and validation of aerodynamic models using wind tunnel testing and flight tests, analyzing results to inform design improvements
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes impacting aerodynamics
- Contribute to the development of intellectual property and lead research initiatives in aerodynamics
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Aerodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in aerodynamics engineering, with a proven track record of leading complex projects
- Expertise in aerodynamic analysis tools, including CFD software such as ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, or similar
- Strong background in wind tunnel testing and flight test methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams, fostering an environment of continuous learning and technical innovation
Preferred:
- Experience in a leadership role within the aerospace industry, particularly in the design of aircraft or high-performance vehicles
- Publications or patents in the field of aerodynamics or fluid dynamics
- Strong project management skills with experience in Agile methodologies
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in MATLAB, Python, and other programming languages for aerodynamic modeling and simulation
- Deep understanding of fluid dynamics principles and their application in real-world scenarios
- Familiarity with structural and materials engineering as it relates to aerodynamic performance
