Position Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Lead works to ensure the highest quality virtual care experience for our patients and clinical team. CMAs are an important part of the patient care experience and essential to the healthcare team. From helping the medical provider prepare for the day’s visits to listening to and documenting patient’s concerns, Medical Assistants contribute to patient care and the overall clinic environment. CMAs hold various roles within the organization including both clinical and administrative duties. Attention to detail and organization is needed. The CMA Lead possesses excellent leadership and supervisory skills, mentorship abilities, interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise sound and responsible judgment. This individual works as part of the interdisciplinary team and is supported by a Clinical Manager or delegate. Excellent computer skills are needed. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program is required.
Within the organization, there are several roles that a Medical Assistant may be assigned. These include Provider MA, IDT MA, Triage MA, and Enrollment Coordinator MA. While each of these positions has different responsibilities all MA’s will be required to be cross-trained on all roles to be able to assist and cover when needed.
Essential Job Duties/ Responsibilities
Remote palliative care duties performed through HIPAA-compliant hardware and software:
- This is a remote role with core hours of 8:30am- 5:00pm PST Monday- Friday
- Serves as a lead for other MAs, responsible for the evaluation and professional development of those assigned team members.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding and passion for Palliative Care services with a sincere interest in supporting patients with complex or life-limiting illnesses
- Interview patients to obtain full medical history including medications, collect vital signs, and record information in patients’ chart
- Chart patients’ chief complaint, required elements of patient intake, and other basic Medical Assistant charting duties.
- Perform chart scrubbing and updating of the Health Care Maintenance in EMR
- Collect and abstract patient records from outside of the Vynca organization
- Assess patients' video readiness prior to scheduled appointment time with the provider
- Support the improvement of and the ability to perform established workflows for Medical Assistant duties, including standard intake, telephone call coordination and documentation, prepping/routing orders, patient health surveys, and managing staff communications
- Complete after-visit summary and schedule appointments and follow-up visits as per clinic procedure
- Provides advocacy support on behalf of patients and families with clinical providers, billing and insurance companies, and other partners in the care team as needed
- Implement and ensure standardized processes are followed including operating procedures, quality assurance, and documentation, in order to create high levels of efficiency and effectiveness
- Provide new and existing Medical Assistants with training and mentorship
- Ensures Medical Assistant staffing coverage
- Maintain positive and effective working relationships within the multidisciplinary team, peers, and Leadership/Operational team, to ensure a streamlined and supportive experience for the patient
- Maintain a basic understanding of and adherence to HIPAA and state regulations on privacy and confidentiality
- Adhere to the basic MA Scope of Practice
Qualifications
- 18 months or more related experience and/or training in a medical setting (required)
- 1 year or more of insurance and billing experience (preferred)
- 1 year or more supervisory experience
Education, experience, and credentialing
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program with an active certification (required)
- Strong understanding of cultural competency with the target population
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
